Glenn2Greatness recently hosted the first CTE/Counselor Forum on February 15 in Willows. The purpose of the collaboration was to continue to bridge communication between CTE educators, counselors, and administrators to help ensure program completers.
What is a course completer, you ask? In the realm of Career Technical Education (CTE), a "course completer" refers to a student who has successfully completed all the requirements of a specific CTE course or program. This typically involves finishing all the necessary coursework, assessments, and any other applicable requirements outlined by the CTE program or curriculum.
Educators gathered to brainstorm solutions to address scheduling challenges that often occur in rural schools. Discussion included that small, rural schools often have fewer options for scheduling classes, leading to conflicts between CTE courses and other academic or extracurricular activities. Students may be forced to choose between CTE courses and other obligations, resulting in lower enrollment and completion rates for CTE programs.
In addition to brainstorming opportunities, participants were provided with information regarding CTE funding, creating quality pathways, and having a collective impact on education in Glenn County. Additionally, local resources were shared along with initiatives for funding opportunities of programs and pathways.
The next networking event aims to connect middle school, high school, college, university, and community leaders with the goal of growing Glenn's future workforce. Future Fest will be held at the Director's Hall Gardens at 221 E. Yolo Street in Orland, CA on April 10 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Educators attending these events are eligible for stipends thanks to UC Davis GEAR UP Rural Valley Partnership & Glenn2Greatness.
